Steve Bezner has been the Senior Pastor of Houston Northwest Church since January 2013. Steve is married to Joy, and they have two teenage sons—Ben and Andrew.
Steve has multiple passions he brings to HNW in his desire to make Houston more like Heaven.
First and foremost, Steve loves Jesus and the Bible. He loves to preach, teach, write, and speak about the Bible in a way that is easy to understand but also challenges people to live the life that God has designed for each of them. He hopes that each member of HNW will be trained to also talk about Jesus in a way that simple and clear so their family and friends can also understand.
Steve desires for collaboration between area churches so that every person in the city has an opportunity to hear the good news about Jesus and to respond to him. As part of that heart, Steve is a board member of the Houston Church Planting Network (HCPN)—a network of church planting networks that are working together to start churches throughout the greater Houston area. Since 2013, HNW as worked diligently to start new churches in Houston through HCPN. For those starting churches outside of Houston, Steve is part of the church planter training team with Glocalnet, a ministry that works to start churches for the world.
Steve is also passionate about embodying and leading reconciliation efforts in Jesus’ name in our city. On the front of racial reconciliation, he works hand-in-hand with Pastor Blake Wilson from Crossover Bible Fellowship in order to help believers of different races love and understand one another and to do ministry throughout the city. Additionally, Steve works to build bridges to members and congregations of other faiths in order to help them understand who Jesus and the church are. This has led to some pretty fascinating conversations, even having Steve invited to tell about Jesus in mosques and synagogues.
Steve is passionate about training and coaching other pastors. He partners with World Hope Ministries International to help theologically train pastors in remote global locations, coaches planters and pastors here in Houston (and elsewhere), and teaches spot seminary courses when available. The Kingdom is all about helping others grow in their capacity to serve and follow Jesus!
Steve is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University (B.A., Bible; M.A., Religion) and Baylor University (Ph.D., Religion) where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
