Missions is not just sending others, it’s going yourself — whether across the street or around the world. Real-life is too good not to be shared. Why not consider volunteering some of your time to get involved in one of the many Houston Northwest mission projects? But be warned…it may very well change your life!
Local Ongoing Mission Opportunities
Operation Backpack is a community outreach event which provides free backpacks to children in our community who are in grades K-12. We team up with several local churches and businesses to impact the northwest Houston community and help families in need by distributing 2,500 new backpacks filled with school supplies. Not only do we give away much-needed school supplies, but we also provide families with many other activities & services at Operation Backpack, including free food and drinks, live music, inflatables for children, free sports physicals, and low-cost immunizations.

Harvey recovery and rebuilding efforts are still in full swing! There are three different ways to help with our Harvey relief where you can join in bringing hope back to the community. We need Case Managers, Construction Leads, and Advocates to work with our relief partners, the Cy-Hope Disaster Relief Network, in our long-term efforts.
1. Case Managers – Help Harvey affected families get back to a new normal by assisting them with the necessary services and resources.
There is some training needed to best serve the families you will be working alongside.
2. Construction Leads – Work alongside teams coming to serve the rebuilding efforts by giving instruction and oversight when needed.
3. Advocate – Walk alongside families spiritually and emotionally as they work through the rebuilding process.

HNW is committed to serving local schools by empowering students and encouraging teachers. Opportunities are available at Moore & Brill Elementary. You can mentor students one-on-one for 1 hour every week, assist them with homework, and encourage them by building long-lasting relationships. There is also work as Office Assistants helping teachers with weekly projects necessary for the classroom (laminating, binding, die cuts, etc.)

Benevolence needs are administered by the HNW Cares Team. As needs are identified by church staff or a deacon, the request is submitted to the team for approval. These requests can be caused by job loss, medical emergencies, or other catastrophic events in the life of a church member. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please feel free to contact us at 281.469.3389.
Please take a moment a see if this is an opportunity for you. Over the past 10 years, we have been connected with the organization Apartment Life. Currently, we are committed to come beside their Care Teams when appropriate opportunities arise and assist with ministry in the local apartments throughout our community. In addition, Apartment Life is looking for individuals who have an interest in being involved as Care Team Leaders in identified local apartments. If you have an interest contact [email protected]
Three Trees is an opportunity for those who are able, to give a gift to those who are in need by taking a gift tag(s) from one of the three trees located around campus during the month of December, purchasing the gift on the tag(s) and returning the unwrapped gift to HNW. Each gift tag represents a boy or girl in need during the Christmas season. If you would like to nominate a family in need, click here or email [email protected].
Each December we show the love of Jesus to our community by caroling in the community and handing out invitations to our Christmas Eve services, taking gift baskets to community partners, and ministering to the widows in our church who need encouragement during the holiday.
