Helping Kenya: Sean’s Story
by Anna Lotz
After traveling to Kenya two years ago on an HNW missions trip and realizing the need for better medical care there, Sean Townsend said he and Associate Pastor Chris Hall are working on crafting medical missions opportunities for HNW.
“It’s definitely something we’re trying to plan and set up for our church members so that they can find a place to be involved,” Sean said. “[We’re] just kind of praying that the Lord will give us the resources that we need and the people that we need.”
Sean said there is still uncertainty about what health care needs exist in the Kenyan communities and how HNW can help—as the idea is in its early stages—but medical missions trips at HNW may focus on offering continuing education and building relationships with native health care providers in the Kajiado County area of Kenya as well as working alongside providers by offering general medical screenings.
“In some ways, there’s a challenge to our congregation to step into those [opportunities], but also it’s a challenge for us to trust that the plans [God is] slowly laying out He’s going to provide the people and the resources to fulfill,” Sean said. “We’re making the plans, and we’re praying that the Lord will guide our steps as we proceed.”
